Shaun Holton: The Purple Book Album Launch

I’m releasing my fourth studio album, The Purple Book, this October. The launch show’s at The Jade on October 24, and I’ll be playing the whole record live with the full band. It also happens to be my 40th birthday. Felt like the right time.
The album will be out on vinyl and digital, and the first single, If There’s an End, drops August 15.
That one means a lot. It’s the first song I’ve written that’s really aimed at myself not the audience. It came through while I was working on the last album, but I wasn’t ready to face it then. Now I am.
Musically, it leans into the kinds of sounds I’ve always been drawn to: layered, cinematic, emotionally heavy without needing to yell. You’ll hear bits of Steven Wilson, Opeth, Filter, even some of Hans Zimmer’s instinct-led approach. But it still feels like mine.
The name came from a large, purple scrapbook my dad created as a personal archive of everything I’ve done musically. It tracks my journey from high school demos through to now. It’s messy, honest, and full of stuff I forgot I ever did. That became the metaphor. Not polished just real.
While studying psychotherapy, I came across Jung’s Red Book. It was rough, hand-drawn, unapologetically inward. That made sense to me. This album came out of the same place: no polish, no mask. Just where I’m at.
The Purple Book is a thread, pulling together from years of writing, missing the mark, making mistakes, and coming back to the thread.

Opening the night is Monya, a fresh-faced Adelaide-based trio who have their kind of magic, providing intricate vocals and light, playing like they have played for as long as I have been alive… that’s 40 years…. for those who forgot, this release also marks my 40th Birthday…

Our Special Guest
The talented and beautiful Priyanka Luxx; her voice brings something else to the room- texture, warmth, clarity. She’ll be sharing special moments in the sets that add a little something more when you thought you were full, but couldn’t go without.
Many of those involved have helped shape this music across recordings and shows for 17 years of my works, and have been by my side through it all. You might’ve seen them in Zombie Eaters, the ole Roger the Band + Mothdust, Pina Del Rey, Priyanka Luxx band, to name a few.
